On this page, you will find all of my published video packages that I have produced for the Kentucky Kernel - an independent, student-run media outlet at the University of Kentucky. I began working at the Kernel as a broadcaster in September of 2024 and now serve as the Video Editor for the 2025-2026 school year. This page highlights my work from my most recent package to my first package. All of this work was completely filmed, written and produced by me. This page features news and feature packages as well as a 25-minute-long documentary.
Divine 9 Black History Stepshow displays unity and celebrated Black History Month
Black History Month was honored and celebrated at the Divine Nine Black History Stepshow at the Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center on Feb. 7, 2026, in Lexington, Ky. The event featured performances by individual chapters and concluded with a unity stroll on stage that allowed the chapters to perform together.
UK construction updates for 2026
Throughout 2026, the University of Kentucky is on track to complete and open multiple major construction projects on campus. White Hall Classroom Building is set to open mid-2026 with classrooms ready for students in the fall. Kirwan-Blanding Hall, a new residence hall that will house 649 residents, is set to open in the fall of 2026 alongside the Johnson Student Recreation Center.

International Thanksgiving Dinner shares global traditions
Every year ballet companies around the world raise their curtains to perform a timeless tradition, “The Nutcracker.” For the founders of the Kentucky Ballet Theatre, Norbe Risco and Rafaela Risco, the performance is a way to bring ballet to Lexington. Founded in 1998, the ballet company has danced its way into the community, creating Christmas magic that audiences look forward to every holiday season.
The spirit of Thanksgiving was shared around the world at the International Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by Ashland Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025. The event gave students and community members from all over the world a chance to come together and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Festival del Día de los Muertos celebrates and passes down Mexican culture and tradition
The Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble performed at the University of Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 21, as a part of the annual concert series, Appalachia in the Bluegrass. The concert showcased how bluegrass music connects people from all different regions of Appalachia and creates a feeling of being home.
A day of dancing, celebration and remembrance was found at the Festival del Día de Los Muertos hosted by Casa de la Cultura Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza. The event gave everyone the chance to engage in Mexican culture and celebrate Día de los Muertos.
History in horse racing: Keeneland Library preserves the legacies of the Thoroughbred industry
Candlelight vigil in memory of Charlie Kirk held on UK’s campus
Just up the hill from the Keeneland racetrack, sits the Keeneland Library, the largest repository of information that is related to the Thoroughbred industry. The library houses nearly 40,000 books, 25 million pages of newsprint and articles and five million still images that cover the Thoroughbred industry’s history. However, the library does more than just preserve and chronicle the past; they actively research the current industry, showcasing their depth of information for the future.
College Republicans at the University of Kentucky hosted a candlelight vigil in memory of Charlie Kirk, a conservative political activist, on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Memorial Hall on UK’s campus. College of Republicans at UK and the UK chapter for Turning Point USA spoke at the vigil alongside other community members.
According to the Associated Press, Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday, Sept. 10, during an event at Utah Valley University as a part of his “The American Comeback Tour.” Kirk was the co-founder and CEO of the conservative youth organization, Turning Point USA.

UKPD addresses new implementations to increase campus safety
DOCUMENTARY: Lifting Spirits: The Everett McCorvey Story
On Friday, August 15, University of Kentucky Chief of Police Joe Monroe sent a campus wide email regarding additional implementations targeting safety efforts on campus, including a campus-wide safety campaign known as Wildcat Ready. The email addressed some of the increased safety efforts the UK Police Department made during the 2024-2025 school year and addressed new implementations they are making to improve safety efforts on campus for the new school year.
Throughout his professional career, Everett McCorvey has worked to spread the joy and meaning of music through everyone he works with and performs for. As the founder and artistic director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, McCorvey is dedicated to continuing the performance and preservation of the American Negro Spirituals. He uses his position as Director of the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre to connect with aspiring performers and show them how to have a career where they are not “working in a silo.” McCorvey has had a successful career spreading his passion for music in many forms, from conducting the National Chorale at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City to conducting the crowds of Rupp Arena and Kroger Field in the national anthem.
New Al tool from UK Libraries aims to assist with student research
‘Anybody who’s interested in literature can find books like this.’ Poetry reading event highlights Hispanic culture
University of Kentucky Libraries recently added the InfoKat Research Assistant to their website. It is an artificial intelligence tool that will take a student’s research question and evaluate it then produce the five most relevant sources for that question. The goal of this tool is to ease the initial research process and make finding relevant sources easier for students.
Combining Spanish and English, the Bilingual Poetry Reading event allowed attendees to listen and discuss poetry originally written in Spanish to immerse themselves in the language.
On Friday, April 18, the University of Kentucky hosted the 78th annual Kentucky Foreign Language Conference in Patterson Hall, featuring poetry recitations from invited authors.
University of Kentucky Spanish professor and event speaker, Robert Myak, said the translation poetry is a difficult and profound art.
“The oral experience of poetry is incredibly rich, and listening to poetry in community is a uniquely transformative experience,” Myak said. Full print article linked here

Color Me Kentucky takes the classroom to the runway
UK HealthCare becomes the first to use new cochlear implant technology
The annual Color Me Kentucky Fashion Show gives students in the department of retailing and tourism management a chance to take their knowledge from the classroom to the runway. This year’s theme is Big Blue Fashion and showcases what makes the fashion in Kentucky unique.
UK HealthCare placed the first MED-EL Flex 34 cochlear implant in 11-year-old DuJuan Broadus Jr. Dr. Nathan Cass, an ear, nose and throat specialist, was the one to place the technology and discusses how he is able to assess each cochlear implant patient and decide which implant model would work best for them. For Broadus, he needed a longer implant than what was already offered on the market in the United States, which led them to the Flex 34.

From civil rights to concert halls: The African American spiritual legacy
The 250Lex Music Series: Dawning of Music in Kentucky event is celebrating the 250th anniversary of Lexington, Kentucky. The event showcased the music of Anthony Philip Heinrich and featured the Transylvania University Chamber Orchestra and Eastern Kentucky University School of Music. The event gave attendees not only the opportunity to hear music that was made in Kentucky but also a chance to learn the history behind the songs.
Music is something to be lived, each measure and line tells a story. Songs tell the stories of those in society and carry their stories for hundreds of years to come.
Songs that feature a call and response between one voice and an accompanying choir fill the pages of African American spirituals, the same music that Everett McCorvey works to keep alive.

New immigration policies affect University of Kentucky international students
Lewis Honors College Leadership Conference hosts Kentucky’s lieutenant governor
New immigration policies are affecting university students across the nation. While other universities have released statements regarding these issues and how they will effect their international students, the University of Kentucky has not directly addressed immigration. International students at UK are left wondering where the university stands and how this will impact their college career.
The 2025 Lewis Honors College Leadership Conference hosted Kentucky’s Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman as the keynote speaker. She discussed what her path in politics was like from being a high school teacher and principal to running alongside Gov. Andy Beshear. She also discussed what it takes to make a stong leader and some of the obstacles she has faced throughout her time as lieutenant governor.
Second snow day cancellation
Celebrating Black History Month through music
The University of Kentucky canceled classes on Feb. 19 due to the winter storm warning and weather conditions on campus. This marks the second cancellation for winter weather during the current spring semester.
The Coffee House Jazz & Poetry Night honored Black History Month through its celebration of jazz music and its history. The Ron Jones Quartet performed a variety of songs and discussed the history and significance of the music as they performed.
Puppy Bowl nationalizes local humane society

The Kentucky Humane Society had two puppies, Colonel and Julep, featured in the 2025 Puppy Bowl. The humane society hosted a watch party at PG & J’s Dog Park Bar in Louisville, Kentucky where residents could bring their own dogs to celebrate Colonel and Julep.

New UK SGA caucus addresses safety concerns
UK YAF hosts speaker Paula Scanlan
The University of Kentucky Student Government Association (SGA) formed the new Wildcat Safety Alliance Caucus as a way to involve every student in campus safety discussions. The caucus is aimed at bringing advocacy, prevention and education to the discussion when talking about campus safety.
UK’s chapter of Young Americans for Freedom group hosted Paula Scanlan, former University of Pennsylvania swimmer, to discuss the topic of transgender women in women’s sports.
The event was described as an “opportunity to hear from a passionate advocate for fair competition in sports.” The event drew a wide variety of students. For some, they were eager to hear Scanlan speak, others protested the event.

Students Volunteer for Veterans
In honor of Veterans Day, on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, University of Kentucky students gathered at Gatton Student Center to create and write cards that would be given to veterans. This was a way for students to give back to those who served for our country.
Class registration for the winter 2024 and spring 2025 semesters at the University of Kentucky took place from Nov. 4 – Nov. 26, 2024. Academic advisors help students choose which classes they will take.
Kentucky Humanities Fosters Community at Annual Book Festival
Kentucky Humanities hosted its annual Kentucky Book Festival on Saturday, Nov. 3, where attendees are able to converse with authors and others about a wide range of books.
Halloween Festival Promotes Animal Adoption
The Lexington Humane Society hosted “Bark Bash” on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Moondance Amphitheater. Attendees and volunteers hope this festive Halloween event will inspire people to adopt new pets over shopping for them.
2024 Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Lecture features Douglas Brinkley
The Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Kentucky hosted the 2024 Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Lecture alongside their co-hosts, UK Libraries and the College of Communication and Information. This year’s lecture featured Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley who discussed topics focused around the theme “Reflections on the 2024 Presidential Election.”
